1st BAHIAN WEEK IN NEW YORK

THE 2009 BRAZILIAN DAY IN NEW YORK IS NO LONGER A SINGLE DAY STREET FESTIVAL IN MIDTOWN MANHATTAN.

THE "VIVA BRAZIL DANCE COMPANY INC. " WILL HOST A FULL CALENDAR OF EVENTS BEGINNING NEXT WEEK. THE DANCE COMPANY WORKS IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE BRAZIL DAY IN NEW YORK AND THE GOAL IS TO CREATE AN UNIQUE CULTURAL EXPERIENCE IN THE BIG APPLE.

THE WEEK WILL BE HIGHLIGHTED BY THE ''CLEANSING OF THE 46TH STREET ", AN EVENT THAT WAS BROUGHT AND TAILORED FOR THE AMERICAN AUDIENCE BY SILVANA MAGDA AND SUPPORTED BY THE BRAZILIAN ENTREPRENEUR JOAO DE MATOS.

THE "CLEANSING OF LITTLE BRAZIL" IS INSPIRED BY THE RELIGIOUS ROOTS AND TRADITION OF THE NORTHEAST BRAZILIAN STATE OF BAHIA. EXCHANGE OF INNER ENERGY AND SPIRITUAL PURIFICATION IS THE GOAL, HERE ACHIEVED THROUGH THE RITUALISTIC USE OF ELEMENTS SUCH WATER, FLOWERS AND PERFUMES FRAMED BY DANCE AND AFR0-BRAZILIAN CHANTS.

IN OTHER WORDS , IS JUST LIKE DOING A HOUSEKEEPING IN OUR HOMES ON SATURDAY MORNING. I DO. WE VACUUM, WE DUST, WE WASH AND AT THE END WE SPRAY A GOOD COLOGNE IN OUR ROOMS AND PLACE FLOWERS ONTO OUR FAVORITE VASE - JUST TO FEEL DALICIUUS™ ABOUT OURSELVES AND OUR HOME AND GET READY FOR THE COMING DAYS AHEAD OF US.

READ THE EVENT'S PROGRAM TO LEARN MORE ABOUT IT.

I WAS INVITED TO BE PART OF THIS REMARKABLE EVENT.
I WILL BE EXHIBITING IN NEW YORK FOR THE FIRST TIME ANOTHER FACET OF MY WORK. AFRICAN MYTHS, DEITIES AND TRADITIONS HAVE BEEN PART OF MY LIFE AND I AM DESIGNING 8 NECKPIECES THAT WILL BRIDGE THE DEITIES AND THE FOUR ELEMENTS UNDER THEIR DOMAIN.

IF YOU ARE IN NEW YORK AREA OR PLANNING A VISIT TO DURING THIS TIME STOP BY AND CHECK THIS EVENT OUT. I PROMISE YOU WILL NOT REGRET.

OBAMANIA

GREAT COLORS ON THIS ANDY WARHOL STYLE ON THE LAST ISSUE OF THE ADVOCATE.
OUR PRESIDENT IS FEATURED ON 2 OF THE LAST MAGS WE GOT. I FEEL LIKE HE IS STILL CAMPAIGNING. THE ADVOCATE HEADLINE SAYS ALL AND IS WORTHY READING.
OTHER HIGHLIGHT IS A FULL PAGE ARTICLE ABOUT THE RETURN OF FASHION ICON JOHN BARTLETT, WHO BACK IN 2002 DECIDED TO TAKE A YEAR OFF AND WENT TO SOUTHEAST ASIA TO STUDY BUDDHISM AND ASHTANGA YOGA...NICE...NOW HE IS COMING BACK TO THE FASHION SCENE . I DID MISS HIS NAME FROM THE SPOTLIGHT BUT HAD NO IDEA ABOUT HIS JOURNEY FIGURING OUT HIS REAL MISSION ON FASHION. WE WILL BE SEEN HIS BRAND BECOME MORE POPULAR AND AFFORDABLE TO THE MASSES. YAY!

"NOPE" IS RAW BUT REAL!

THE YELLOW BACKGROUND REALLY MADE THIS COVER AND PRES. OBAMA LOOKS RADIANT AND AGAIN SELLING...

NEW YORK CITY HAS BECOME A HUGE PART OF MY LIFE SINCE I MOVED TO THE STATES AND I LIKE TO BE AWARE OF WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE BIG APPLE AND IN THE NATIONS POP SCENE.
ON THIS ISSUE, J.LO. IS FEATURED SHOOTING A SCENE FOR NEW MOVIE (THE BACK-UP PLAN) AT THE "GRAY'S PAPAYA" ON SIXTH AVENUE AND 8TH STREET IN MANHATTAN. PAPARAZZIS DON'T GO ANYWHERE WHEN SHE IS THE HOUSE AND SHE SMILES TO THEIR FLASHES. LOVE HER!

I READ THE REVIEW OF 'JULIE & JULIA" , THE LATEST MOVIE WITH MERYL STREEP. WE SAW IT LAST WEEKEND AND IT'S MARVELOUS. I HAD NO IDEA WHO JULIA CHILD WAS. IT IS VERY INSPIRING AND A MUST SEE FOR FOOD LOVERS LIKE ME. SO IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE GO SEE IT. MERYL IS ONCE AGAIN DELIVERING AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE.

I LOVE MEXICO

My Mexican cousin Y went to Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta in the beginning of Spring and got great pictures of her lazy days in Mexican land.
I was in Mexico 5 years ago and I can't wait to go back. I loved Mexico and I had not seen the major tourist destinations yet but its in my bucket list. Life got its own rhythm in South America.

This image is the epitome of a tropical vacation.
" If Madonna calls, I am not here."

Big outdoor mirror of fabulous Frida .

An anti-diet shelf..looooove it! Just bring me coffee and I am in heaven.

Mediterranean arches in the Mexican riviera... passage to ancient world.

Can I have a bigger one! Love the slices of mango in the background...jummie jummie!

Dried hot chilies to burn your thoughts.

Pink water lilly...geometry of perfection.

Very fashion inspired...DVF could create an entire collection inspired by this picture.

Diets and salads

I am not a big fan of salads, nor soups but due to my current body's olive shape I need to get back to a more Daliciuus™ look.
The salads on left were made by W last night and were delicious. Here are a few points about salads:

For me salad means "salad"...a variety of elements mixed together ... flavors blending and activating new flavors. I hate "house salads" and I really haaaate to order salad at expensive-high profile restaurants...hello!
If I am at a fabulous restaurant I want to try the main dishes. I want to eat the house specialties.
A very few times I had memorable salads at restaurants..the best ones I tried were homemade by W, me or my mom.

I am so not LA when it comes to food. Uh, please and forget about "wraps"..what's that!? I do love veggies but sautés, stewed , pan seared or grilled.

But at this point it seems like I will have more and more salads in my life.

Model 2 and below model 3.

Last Thursday I was in Asbury Park - New Jersey for a jewelry making workshop. I created a specific set of necklace and earrings for this group. I made 3 different designs. The original idea was to have them making a treasure-like bracelet but after showing the piece to my hostess she thought that a necklace/earrings set would be more wearable. I designed something really pretty, a little be asymmetrical on 3 layers. I kept it very flexible because it needs to be priced right. The second did not work because the price range would be away higher than people were willing to spend. I end up editing the original design and the one seeing here is the final version.
This workshop was sponsored by CRYSTALLIZED™ and Beadalon®.
W said that I need to be more concise introducing the brands cause I spent around 25 minutes with it what I agreed.

The workshop was OK. My timing was totally off.
The design itself wasn't complicated and only required basic wire-looping technique but only one lady had done jewelry before. What is basic for me might be a challenge for beginners. The workshop was supposed to be taught in 2:15 min and it took me 3:30min. Do you remember those daddies babysitting? Imagine you telling your partner that you are engaged on a workshop and it will require 2 hours of his night time and then you showed up home 4 hours later?!?

The kits had half of 22 loops made already within but it wasn't enough to speed up the process. I had to finish some of the pieces because I wanted them to leave the class wearing it. Not mentioning that all the earrings were assembled by W and I.

On a scale from 0 to 10 I rate my workshop 7.
Thank, God everybody was easy going and joke about the situation.
I ask my hostess to set up only coffee and water but she decides to cater the workshop setting up a huge table with delicious finger food...score 10 for her.
Thanks, darling!

The lesson is the project needs to be simpler but if the project is too simple the jewelry doesn't look that fabulous...to be or not to be!

At least through the pictures above, they all seem to be happy!

"Fireworks at dark" within "Bead and Wire Jewelry Exposed"

I am running a promotions through this blog from now to August 30Th.

I want to invite you to become a DaLiciuUs™ follower just clicking on the gadget on right sidebar. Leave a comment telling me why you have decided to be part of my daliciuus™ world and your name will be entered into a drawing of a copy of my first book ( cover's picture below) and a kit of this fabulous project called "Fireworks at dark". I will randomly select a winner on September 1st. Please, feel free to be a incognito follower if you want but include your email in case you win.

Good luck!

Above, the version's in the book. It is a Fall color palette with splashes of vibrant fuchsias and purples.

The picture above is the version on my kit - a brightest and sunny color palette. I designed this necklace for Beadalon® and my goal was to spotlights the colored stringing wires, showing how it will enhance the fabulous cuts n the surfaces of Crystallized™ components. The design was improved after all because I have realized that I did not need so may crimp beads to keep the crystals in place. After guiding a workshop for Crystallized™ , one of my students told me that the crimps above the neckline (velour tubing) was poking her neck so I covered them using round bead covers. Many times I create pieces looking for the design element first and wear ability comes after - sometimes I found out by myself and other times customers or students give a feed back. There is always room for improvements.

Valentino is perfect.
I am not!

"Exposed" was co- authored with fellow designers Katie Hacker and Margot Potter. I am sure that within those pages you will find inspiration to create your own jewelry.

PS. To my first 4 followers: You all are into this drawing.
